What is the advantage of thixotropic rust preventative fluid?

Dinitrol rust prevention fluids as used for application on all vehicle types and are thixotropic. These products have good film building properties for open surfaces as well as for cavities. Dinitrol rust prevention oils, on application will penetrate into crevices and joints to prevent further corrosion even on damp or dirty surfaces. It does this by forming a brown, waxy water repellent protective film.

Thixotropic explained

Some oils behave in a thixotropic manner. In other words, whilst being pumped, sprayed or agitated, they behave as a normal liquid. However, after application they behave almost as a solid or gel-like, inhibiting flow and drain from the surface. For this reason, thixotropic oils can offer advantages above and beyond those of a conventional oil, helping to maintain film thickness, even on vertical surfaces, and therefore maintaining rust proofing characteristics, as well as reducing spillage onto surrounding floor areas.

A thixotropic substance can therefore be applied easily and clings to a vertical surface. Thus, a substance such as Dinitrol rust prevention oil is ideal for application to all man-made forms of transportation requiring the application of rust preventative substances. Thixotropic substances have high static shear strength and low dynamic shear strength at the same time, and lose viscosity under stress.
